About Me

IMG_8751 (2).jpg

I grew up in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Craving sunshine, I escaped the Oregon drizzle for college at the University of Arizona where I received my Bachelor of Science in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology with Honors in Geosciences.

After four years in the desert, I returned to the Pacific Northwest, took two years off to travel, and then headed up to Seattle for graduate school at the University of Washington. There, I received a Master of Science in Ecosystems Analysis and a Master of Science in Geological Sciences. My graduate research explored past climate change in the Arctic from lake sediment records. This research took me to Siberia and Greenland, not usually places one would seek to go to! However, my field experiences shaped me as a scientist and an instructor, and you will see many examples of my field and travel experiences embedded throughout my courses.

In addition to teaching Earth Science classes full-time, I am a distance education support support specialist and Peer Online Course Review (POCR) Lead at Los Angeles Pierce College. As such, I mentor faculty in effective online course design, using best practices in online teaching, and how to create engaging, accessible, and visually appealing online courses.
